Sweet Annie * Artemisia annua

Sweet annie seed heads

Sweet Annie, sometimes called Sweet wormwood, is used as an anti malarial herb plant throughout the world. I have known about this plant for decades, although it is considered a weed in other areas I have seen it grow rarely around my area. The aromatic branches are used in scented wreaths.

I started studying about this plant because people were using it for lyme issues. It was helping people with lyme symptoms and I suggested using it as a lyme preventative along with other herbal plants. If you got bit by a tick I suggested taking a sweet annie tincture preparation in case it was a lyme tick.

Because it didn’t grow in my area, I figured it would be easy to grow as it is considered a weed. Direct seeded in two gardens didn’t work and growing it from the seed in a pot didn’t work either. I tried again this year and had success.

Growing Sweet annie from seed

This year I had luck growing it in a container. I put the very tiny seed on top of the soil and it worked. I do not know if it was the seeds or my methods.

You can purchase seeds for Richters, Canada, www.richters.com or Strictlymedicinalseeds.com out of Oregon.

I am interested in researching the herbal equivalent to pharmaceutical drugs so when I started to hear about the success of doctors using hydroxycholorquine with their covid patients I knew that I needed to grow Sweet Annie because I knew from experience that it was very hard to purchase the tincture. Not many herbal companies make it.

For more information about how Doctors have been using the drug hydroxycholorquine, please check out the video that these docs who call themselves America’s Frontline Doctors made in Washington DC on the steps of the Supreme Court. Unfortunately it has been heavily censored by all the media companies.

You can access the video on Bit Chute: America’s Frontline Doctor’s Press Conference. The transcript is available here ; https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/americas-frontline-scotus-press-conference-transcript

I was very encouraged to read a article in Time online magazine about the African country, Madagascar that has developed an herbal anti covid drink called Covid-Organics. It is based on traditional African medicine. It contains 62% artemisia annua. They use the herbal beverage for prevention as well as treating covid patients.

The article can be found at Time.com: ‘ Could it work as a Cure? Maybe. A Herbal Remedy for Coronavirus Is a Hit in Africa, But Experts Have Their Doubts.

I made tincture with the plants in the pot. I waited until they flowered. It is a wonderfully aromatic plant.

Remove the plant material in 6 weeks. I strain it through several thicknesses of nylon tulle material.

Pour decanted tincture into bottles.
